Advantages of LED lighting
Advantages of LED lighting
The biggest advantage of LED-lighting is that it is very energy sufficient which makes it cheaper. It works on a very low capacity, usually between 0,1 and 5 watt a LED. LED’s have a high lumen/watt combination which makes it very energy efficient. The latest generation LED’s are the so called Power LED’s which have a bigger capacity and a higher light strength. Compared to a light bulb the LED uses a lot less electricity. The electrical energy is immediately converted to light and the warmth production is minimal. Using the LED-light for a year continually will only cost you about 2 euro’s. That is way less than a light bulb which can cost around 50 euro’s. In theory the LED could convert 100% of the electricity into light. In reality the efficiency of LED’s are between that of light bulbs and fluorescent lights.
Sustainable and maintenance free.
With a life span of almost 100.000 hours LED lighting does not have to be replaced soon. While halogen lighting can only last for 3000 hours. A LED light has no filament which brakes like traditional lighting. With LED we could better speak of lighting hours instead of burning hours, because there is nothing burning!
On hard to reach places, like certain garden lighting, high hotel lobbies and staircases it is difficult and time consuming to change the lights which makes it pricey. With the long time span LED lighting would be perfect for these places, they would hardly ever have to be replaced. This saves a lot of time and money eventually. The risk of being confronted with broken lights is limited this way.
Safety LED lighting
LED’s are unbreakable, very shock proof, cold and vibration resistant. The so called half conductor is nicely packed in a cover of epoxy resin which is waterproof. LED doesn’t shed a lot of heat and has no UV radiance. This makes the lighting childproof and fire safe. It is also very appropriate for applications in food of textile or to light antique objects with in museums.
Ambiance, lighting effects & design LED lighting
With the technique of changing colors you could endlessly play with colors. These so called RGB-LED’s combine the three colors red, green and blue in a housing which creates an entire color spectrum. And because you can change and program the direction of the LED lighting, the color intensity and the mixture will be easy to adjust. LED light does not have to be filtered which makes it very appropriate for monochrome applications.
A light bulb with a light filter is less bright/clear than a LED light in the right color. And LED’s are also very small and compact. Designers can therefore design very creative armatures. Besides all these advantages LED also doesn’t need time to warm up like a TL light does. This ideal for digital controle and makes the LED suitable for mood lighting and effects.
‘Disadvantages’
Eventually besides all these advantages there is also a disadvantage. LED is very expensive compared to regular lighting solutions. The current LED lighting on professional level could be 3 times as expensive and could range to 10 times more expensive. This will give you an extremely energy sufficient light and it will earn its purchase amount back.
